‘’utterly flawless’’

‘’Richard has the skill to add a uniqueness in his interpretations to many classics tracks…’’

Richard Rozze is an electric and acoustic guitarist, vocalist, composer and arranger. His musical influences are classic British rock, blues, jazz, Celtic and bluegrass music. He cites his first guitar teacher, Jeff Alexander, who he met at eleven years old, as his major influence. Jeff encouraged him to explore guitarists such as Gary Moore, Paul Kossoff, Eric Johnson, Peter Green, Pierre Bensusan. Later at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Richard studied a Masters in Jazz. Musicians such as Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall lead him to a deeper passion for improvisation. Since then, Richard has explored bluegrass and Celtic styles with the acoustic group ‘Open Water’.  In this group, Richard also showcases his song writing skills, takes lead and harmony vocal duties, plays the Dobro, tenor banjo and mandolin.

.Richard’s debut album ‘Learning to Fly’ was released in 2014 and showcases jazz inspired compositions. His arrangement of Jimmy Webb’s Wichita Lineman was featured on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line – Up Show.

His latest solo project , a rock trio under his own name, includes bassist Jonathan Noyce and drummer Simon Lea and they are set to release an album in 2023. ‘’With this trio, I feel I have found my voice as a composer and electric guitarist. It is the result of all my influences and I hope it brings a fresh approach to the guitar trio format.’’

Jeff Alexander (support):

Jeff is an acoustic guitar specialist, particularly classical and flamenco styles. He has researched early music and plays the lute and related instruments, and has been heavily involved in folk and latin styles.

His solo album ‘River Moon’ embraces Celtic and Renaissance lute styles. An accomplished composer, Jeff has recently been interested in developing his own guitar tunings to create haunting melodies and fascinating textures. Jeff has played in a vast array of musical contexts and has performed Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez in Canterbury Cathedral. An enthusiastic and much respected educator, Jeff has worked at Canterbury Christ Church University as guitar tutor and lecturer since 1979.
